Get Eyewear Ready for Memorial Day

We’d like to introduce Eyecessorize spokesperson and style expert Lawrence Zarian, aka LZ, as our new ongoing guest blogger! You may have spotted him dishing out fashion advice on hit TV shows like “Entertainment Tonight,” “Inside Edition” and “LIVE! with Kelly and Michael,” just to name a few! So in coming months, be on the lookout for even more blog posts from our main man.

Come Friday afternoon, I hope you’ll be well on your way to the coast or off to a friend’s annual Memorial Day cookout to celebrate one of the biggest weekends of the season—a three-day hoorah to kick off the long-awaited summer! But before you head off into the sun, let’s make sure you’re dressed the part and that your eyewear is in check. No matter your plans, whether you’re pool- or beach-side, hosting a big bash or spending time with the family, stylish specs and sunnies are an accessory must! Lucky for you, I’ve handpicked my top outfit choices for the season, along with trendy frames to polish off the looks. See below for some Memorial Day fashion inspiration.

Ladies

1. Casually Chic

The maxi dress is a staple for all women this season, especially if it’s in a colorful print or pattern. After all, it’s feminine, figure-flattering and oh-so-comfortable. Complete the look with a denim vest or blazer, and neutral gladiator sandals. Oversized Prada cat-eye sunglasses, in sandy beige with a dramatic tortoise brow-bar applique, will offer up understated glamour. And if you’re in the mood to wear glasses, opt for a similar silhouette and color combination by David Yurman, with metallic gold temple accents for extra elegance.

2. Color-Fueled Hotness

Ladies, this summer, don’t fight white! Be white hot in a short and flowy one-shouldered dress, paired with leather strappy sandals. Add instant shots of color with a weaved handbag and vibrant glasses. Match your tote to your Face à Face frames—orange-on-orange is a great way to go when it comes to your eyewear; add in a matte finish to mix it up. Or if you want more color variety, translucent emerald shades from L’Wren Scott might be more your taste.

3. Beachy Keen

Whether it’s a bikini or a one-piece, you can definitely turn heads this summer in sexy swimwear. Oversized Chloé sunglasses in poppy red have that “look-at-me” effect, while Derek Lam cat-eye glasses in monaco blue—an essential color choice this season, I might add—transform this style into a more sophisticated look. And don’t forget, fun sandals and a lightweight cover-up are essentials for your day by the water!

Gents

1. Bold ‘n Bright

Men can inject color into their summer wardrobes too, with vibrant swim trunks, in shorter, yet masculine, cuts. In general, higher hemlines are, without a doubt, making a fashion comeback this summer. Classic teardrop aviators from Ogi Eyewear never go out of style and help to create a balanced look when paired with a brighter palette. A plaid, short-sleeved button-down, basic flip-flops and navy JOE by Joseph Abboud glasses with strong linear lines will transform this beach-friendly look for evening get-togethers.

2. Coastal Charm

Layering is a great and easy alternative to pull together a versatile outfit. A nautical-inspired striped T-shirt coupled with colored chino shorts and leather sandals keeps everything looking clean and simple—throw on a denim jean jacket for the finishing touch. Sportier frames with keyhole bridges and silver temple detailing, from Ermenegildo Zegna and Smith Optics, add masculine appeal, especially in golden yellow and deep blue marbled colorations.

3. Simply Prepster

Tried-and-true preppy outfits are essential to have throughout the season. Traditional polo or collared shirts paired with colored linen shorts and classic boat shoes go best with more retro-inspired round and wayfarer frames from Original Penguin and Shwood. Texturized wood and matte finishes are key details for eyewear accessories. This look is all about easy-going styling with refined touches.
